Practicing Your Righteousness Before Others Beware

Practicing our righteousness before others we should beware means: To be on guard against; be cautious of, or exert caution. So I think this is a statement that we should take notice of and listen to. Even when giving we should not give because we have to or should we are giving because we want to.

Matthew 6:1 (ESV) 1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

I think Matthew is warning us here for he even says when one gives so the others might see what he is giving that there will be no reward. One should give because one feels led to give. How much is between the giver and the Lord.

Back before we were led to start ALMs and TPO we were doing a site for our church. Money was tight and I prayed and told the Lord what I felt we could give. And we did faithfully each month it was not much but we gave it then a few months later we are raised our gift a few times and our church wanted to help some missionaries and he was asking for 20 people to give $10.

Our hands went up however instead of $10 we gave $20. We paid our bills and had money for what we needed—again we can not out give God… I have been practicing not use an envelope at church with my name and how much I am giving unless we are giving for a specific thing they I use the envelope and just check what we are giving it for. Am not worried about the tax deduction I will talk about that at a different time.
