Darkness or Light Your Choice

John 12: 44-46 (NIV) 44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
Well I will have to say when the Holy Spirit showed me this I was not sure why I am reading it and waiting. I have said this many times before so it is not new to me. I think all that is reading this believes in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. However how many have really thought about Jesus’ birth and death. Oh we have this beautiful Nativity Scenes. We talk about Jesus as the world tries to shut him out. They say things like season’s greetings, they protest the Nativity Scenes on public property, they talk about they have a right not to see it. However the same right works the other way as well, those of us that wish to see it have the same right to see it. They even write Merry X-mas writing Christ bothers them so they do X instead. Next question if someone does not believe in Christ or God why does it bother them so much that I do believe Him. I think they are afraid they might have to make a choice so to them I say “Darkness or Light Your Choice”
So I came up with this story… Let us say I am a very very rich person and I am your quote, unquote friend. I take and do some research and I find your complete history and I find people you have been friends with and known all your life. I contact them and invite them to a party I am planing for YOU. I spare no expense I have neon signs made I have all sorts of stuff. Right in the middle of this convention center I have a 6 foot tall 12 foot in diameter round pedestal built with stairs and a big recliners.
So then I call and tell you that I would love to take you out for a big dinner for your birthday. So we make the plans and I come pick you up and as we drive away I tell you that I must make one quick stop to deliver something. We get to the convention center and stop. I talk you into coming with me to drop of this folder and we will go on. So we walk in and all at once all the lights come on and everyone shouts Happy Birthday… and with that they applaud you as I take you up on the pedestal and seat you in the big comfortable chair, had you a glass of punch. I excuse myself and go back down to your FRIENDS and we laugh and talk and enjoy YOUR BIRTHDAY PARTY leaving you up on the pedestal.
After a while all at once we start passing out gifts to each other and nothing for you at all. Not one gift was given to you. How would you feel about that? For that is what is done with Jesus, I hear all the stories that Jesus was not born on this day etc. however I do not think anyone except God knows the day this is the one that has been chosen. So would you be happy at your Birthday Party if you were ignored at it as everyone else exchanged gifts and laughed and had a great time? Well that is exactly what we do with Jesus. That is why I have such a hard time at Christmas.

Well back to the original question the birth and death of Jesus. He was born in a stable in a manger. Now back then the stable was not a nice will lite heated and air-conditioned building with a concrete floor. It was probably a hole in the side of a hill with no lights no heat and no floor. The ground was probably wet and muddy we know that cows do not excuse themselves and go to the rest room down the hall. So I imagine that is was smelly as well. Are you picturing what I am talking about? Not a nice place, well that is where the birth of our Lord and savior was. Then there was his death, He was beat and laughed at he was spit on and nailed to a cross. Neither His birth or His death was pretty. In fact it was horrible, why was it that way? Well my opinion is that way no one can stand on judgment day and say You don’t understand I was born in… got the story? No one can say You don’t understand however Jesus can say it.
This is the time that I love to walk into a business and smile as I pay for my purchase and say loudly “Merry Christmas”. I love my Lord and Savior and I will tell everyone about Him and what he has done for me… I know this is not the normal however this is what I was given.
