Ephesians 6:5-9 (NIV) 5 Bondservants, be obediAent to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; 6 not with A-service, as men-pleaders, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 with goodwill doing Aservice, as to the Lord, and not to men, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.

9 And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.

When I started reading this I had a thought that I would like to build on for a bit. So let us look up Bondservant: A person obligated to serve without wages. A slave or serf. The definition of a serf was an agricultural labor during the middle ages who was bound to work on a lord’s estate.

Next the definition of Master is a person who has control or domination over something or someone. So now that we have that we understand who John was talking to about being obedient.

So what I want to do is change this just a little and make it to employee and employer, instead of bondservant and Master. Now it is closer to home for us all. As an employee you are not a slave nor is the employer a master however the same rules are in order. As an employee you should be obedient to those who are your employer according to the flesh and have sincerity in your heart as you do to Christ.

I did leave out the fear and trembling for that was to a bondservant. However it could be with respect and understanding. Do not do it with eye service because it is a phony service do it as unto Christ, I mean whatever your job is do it as though you where doing it for the Lord. Why, because you may be the only Jesus that person might see. You are to do whatever job there is to do as if you where doing it for God not for man. Again if you do it good for man you will receive the same from the Lord.

the last part of verse 8 is the reason for what I have written whether a slave or free. You took the job so do the job. I do not care what it is if you are asked to sweep the floor or clean the toilet in the Church, do it as unto the Lord. Because actually you are doing for Christ. The job you have may not be the job you desired however it is the job you have. So if we do it as unto the Lord it will be honored.

This is what God has called me to do. So when I write something I write it as if it was being written to God for he sees what I do and it will be rewarded as such. I pray daily hourly and sometimes minutely because I desire God to be happy with what I do and that he is guiding me through the Holy Spirit.  We all need to learn to listen and do what we are told to do. God will never lead us or guide us wrong.

  1. We do everything as unto the Lord, he is watching us he knows our heart, and knows is we are doing it grudgingly or with the attitude of being sloppy and hit a miss here and there. That is not doing it unto the Lord, We need to be careful to do it right.

  2. Men that make so much money I think they get used to living on the high surf and they depend on it and think that’s only thing that can keep them. It becomes their god that’s how the get by and they cant depend anyone or anything else to take care of them and they dont know how to live any other way. And Then there the ones that are just down right greedy and money is all they want is riches.
