Ephesians 5:1-2 (MEV) 1 Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children. 2 Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.

To understand about being imitators of God; let us go back and look at Ephesians 4:29-32 (MEV) 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for building up, that it may give grace to the listeners. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you are sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outbursts, and blasphemies, with all malice, be taken away from you. 32 And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

Now let us continue with Ephesians 5:3-5 (MEV) 3 And do not let sexual immorality, or any impurity, or greed be named among you, as these are not proper among saints. 4 Let there be no filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse joking, which are not fitting. Instead, give thanks.
5 For this you know, that no sexually immoral or impure person, or one who is greedy, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

First, let us look at the definition 1. To follow or endeavor to follow as a model. 2. To mimic; impersonate. 3. To make a copy of; reproduce closely. 4. To have or assume the appearance of; simulate; resemble.

I believe if we are to be Christians then we need to work on being imitators our Heavenly Father.
