When we read and accept scripture we need to know and accept all scripture not just that that sounds good. I know I sound like a broken record, however, we need to understand that incomplete scripture is false hope. The words in John 14:14 sound good unfortunately it is not so for those that do not know Jesus as their savior.

A complete statement here is John 14:12-14 (MEV) 12 Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these because I am going to My Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

Again the keywords are HE WHO BELIEVES. It is not for just anyone it is true for those who believe and have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior can ask. We sometimes also than “ask anything” out of context as well. See this is talking about doing the works that Jesus did and doing greater things.
