The Mouth Isn’t Defiled By What Goes In It’s What Comes Out

The mouth can get us in more trouble than we need sometimes it’s better to keep it shut.  Once it is said it is out and there is no taking it back it can not be erased or deleted it is there…

The Mouth Isn't Defiled By What Goes In It's What Comes Out

Matthew 15:11 (NKJV) Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

As I read this verse I started thinking about. Healthy eating, we have food, then we have organic food, we shouldn’t eat this or that, however, we should take this pill and this one is better than that, however, taking this pill might fix the problem and the same time it might cause you to get dizzy or you might get sleepy from it so do not drive after taking it until you find out. It also might increase your blood pressure or give you cancer or destroy your kidneys. Might cause a heart attack or stroke and in some cases, it has caused death however it has been proven to clear up acne. Wow, I want to run right out and buy that.

There are foods we should not eat they are not healthy for you. Well, I figured that one out if it tastes good you should not eat it. However, Jesus said what goes in a mouth does not defile [To make unclean or unfit for use; desecrate or to debase the pureness or excellence of; corrupt.] However what comes out is another story. So maybe just maybe we should think about it first.

The world has dictated how Christians should act to the point that some Christians well say it is in the Bible. For instance, We should not use the Lords name in vain, that is what the Bible says, however, the world has said we should not curse. However, one gets excited and says “OH my God, or I swear to God and on and on is OK. No, it is not that is using the Lords name in vain. Another big one was when they removed “so help you God” when you are sworn in, in the courtroom and Christians were in an uproar over that. In fact, I had a couple Christian friends get mad at me when I said it was the right thing to do. How can I say that well I didn’t really Jesus did, In Matthew 5: 33-36 (NIV) 33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

I think we need to read the Bible and understand what it says we should do and should not do. In fact learn some verses so that one can be a witness for the Lord, to the world. If we memorize scripture and understand scripture and use scripture then we are learning a good lesson. In fact, Hebrews 4:12 NKJV) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

If we answer with the word of God it is amazing what happens I remember when I first got saved. a Meet the Press program. Back then they had a host and the guest, then there was a panel of 4 reports from different newspapers and they would ask questions. Well, the show started and a reporter asked a question and this Preacher said “Well the Bible says” and quoted Scripture. Then another asked a question and again Scripture. This went on for a few minutes then one of the reporters said: “I don’t care what the Scripture says what do you say”? The Preacher answered what I have to say about it does not really matter what God says about it matters. They asked no more questions the Host and the Preacher spent the rest of the shop talking.

I love that example for it is the power of the Word. An atheist does not believe there is a God however they have and are spending millions to have Him and His word removed from everywhere. To me, that is an oxymoron. If you do not believe He is then why are you wanting the one that does not exist removed?
