A New Covenant

A new Covenant what exactly does that mean. Well let us look at the word covenant,  the conditional promises made to humanity by God, as revealed in Scripture. OK so a new covenant means there was an old covenant.  The old Covenant was talked about in John 7: 19  Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?” Did not Moses give you the law, [this was the old covenant] and they did not [could not] keep it.  So now let us look at John 8: 1-12  1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

11 She said, “No one, Lord.”

And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

We all know this story so let us look at it. verse 3 they bring this woman to Jesus and say this woman was caught in adultery, we that tells me they where trying to fool Jesus and prove he was not who he said he was.  Why would you say that, some might say.  Because if there was adultery according to the law both man and woman would have been brought before Jesus. That tells me it was a test.  Now in verse 5  Now Moses, in the law, commands us that such should be stoned. But what do You say? This so good because just 34 verses ago Jesus talked about the old covenant and Moses. to them and then they revert back to the old covenant…  and Jesus throws it right back in their face, however he even acts like he didn’t even hear them as he wrote in the dirt.  It does not say however my mind tells me he could have been writing something like this:

  • Jane 1479 Hebrew Circle
  • May 20371 Baptist Lane
  • Sarah 6682 Moses Drive

He just writes in the dirt with his finger.  He does not blame satan [the accuser] however with his actions he actually blames Moses.  He says in Jyms language “OK if she was caught in adultery then let the one of you that has kept all of Mose’s laws cast the first stone, go ahead and kill her”.  So as he wrote they started leaving, because not one of them had or could keep the commandment.  There is none righteous not one.

So now the room is empty and only Jesus is standing there and asks her where are your accusers?  They all were gone, and he says I do not accuse you either so go and sin no more.  Question did you read anywhere where she asked to be saved?  Not once however Jesus says go and sin no more.  Then Jesus talks to them again and tells them He is the light of the world…  I hope this opens some eyes to where we are now we are not under the Law of Moses the old covenant we are under the new covenant the blood of Jesus…
