Precept Upon Precept To Stand On

Precept will help us grow in our faith and in our Lord if we take and understand what is being said and how it is being said.  The word precept a command based on Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount; Matthew 7:12 (NIRV) In everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you. This is what is written in the Law and in the Prophets.

2 Peter 1: 12-15 (NIV)  12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

As I read this I think I understand why Peter Felt it important to remind them [us] of the truth. The second thing or is it the first thing I noticed was the progression of things.  The order of this things just reading them may seem they where just written down however after reading them over a few times I realize that they are or would seem to be backwards to us.  However reading them I see Peter is teaching us to do things in an order to make us strong and prepared for the next step.  First we need to have the Faith and be grounded in this and then we are ready to grow to the next step.  They are in a specific order for a reason.  I pray that we all take this and follow the order of precept upon precept.

1. faith, goodness;
2. goodness, knowledge;
3. knowledge, self-control;
4. self-control, perseverance;
5. perseverance, godliness;
6. godliness, mutual affection;
7. mutual affection, love.
8. possess these qualities in increasing measure

Following these steps in this order will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Memory Verse April 21, 2016

Romans 1: 11-12 (NIV) 11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong, 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each others faith.

  1. I LIKE THAT SCRIPTURE BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD BE REMINDED OVER AND OVER, BECAUSE WE NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS FULLY!!~ IT SHOULD BE STORED UP IN US IN OUR SPIRIT AND OUR SOUL AND HEARTS. WE KNOW WE NEED THEM AND I DONT MIND AT ALL THAT SOMEONE REMINDS ME ABOUT THINGS ESPECIALLY TO MAKE IT THROUGH OUR LIVES HERE ON THIS EARTH. THIS IS GOOD JYM THANK YOU!!

    1. Gina I first wish to thank you for your kind words. My duty is to train and teach what we are to be and what we should do to serve our Father and what Jesus did for us and I feel it is important that we store this up and use it to grow and be what we are to be. It is not my job to force anyone to do anything. Those that do or do not is a choice each one has to make and by not reading or not doing that is up to each individual. I know that in some cases like this one there is no catchy title so some choose not to read it. That is their choice and someday they will stand before the same God and he will make the decision however I do believe that if we will read and understand the scriptures it will make life so much easier.
