Elijah is one of my favorites to read about. I love this story here in 1 J Kings. It shows us about trusting in our Lord and doing as we should. I pray that this might give strength to some and insight into the workings of our Lord.

1 Kings 17:8-15 (NKJV) 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”
15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.

This is a story about Elijah being hungry and thirsty, it is also about trust our Lord and having faith in our Lord. We first see the Lord telling him to go to Zarephath and stay there we also see that he has talked to a widow and told her to take care of Elijah. My first question was and is did she listen.

I am sure she heard but I think she was so focused on the problem that she did not see what was happening right in front of her. [Sounds like us today] Then she even announces that God is real but she does not trust Him completely. Elijah asked for some water then added a morsel of bread.

Her comment tells me she knows who God is but is not faithful enough to believe He can take care of her. [sound like anyone you know] She says to him that she is getting some wood for her and her son and prepare their last meal and die for that is all she has.

Another fear not comes shining through here Elijah tells her to do as he asked and the Lord will make sure she has food for many more days. He must have sounded like an honest man for she did listen for they ate and the her and her household at for many days.

The Lord God of Israel said that the bin of flour and the jar of oil will not run dry until the Lord sends rain to the earth. What would you do if the Lord spoke to you like that? What if there was no job, no money and a total stranger came to you and said that. Would we believe it was the Lord?

Well she did so he must have convinced her for they at for many days. Nothing is impossible for God or for those of us who believe in Him…

Thank you for reading and may God bless and be with you and watch over you. And let us understand, it is time for us to BLESS GOD…  This Ministry is supported with and by your love offerings, please consider helping us to spread the Gospel around the world.
