The first part of this teaching was “Crossing Your Jordan“Click Here The second part was “The Role of a Christian Man” Click Here and now we are at Fighting The Good Fight. I hope you read the completed three parts will there be more that is up to God I am only the messenger.
2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NIV) 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
A very good friend of mine made this statement the other night and through his statement I started thinking about it and thus I am writing this. Paul did not say I preached a good sermon or I lead multitudes to the Lord. He didn’t boost on how great a job he did. He didn’t even talk about his salvation. He said “I have fought the good fight.” Not a good fight THE good fight… Now that got me thinking. The good fight that tells me it was a specific fight he was referring to not just any fight a certain one, one he had to fight.
Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
That is what Paul was referring to his struggles with his flesh. The war with worldly thoughts, desires, temptations. Do you think maybe this great man of God had the same problems we deal with daily as well. I do believe Paul battled daily with his flesh with his mind. I think he worked at it constantly.
For in Romans 7: 15-20 (Darby) 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So Paul was tempted and Paul was no different from us, in many ways… However he saw SIN for what it is and fought against it. I would suggest reading all of chapter 7.
Now the question is according to Paul in Colossians 2:20 (NIV) 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV) 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
So how do we fight this battle, how do we handle this? Well sense we are the Priest of our House Hold. We need be ready for battle we need to be prepared to fight the good fight and what we need to do is pray and as we are told in Ephesians 6:10-20 (NIV) We need to put on our armor and be ready for the battles that will come our way…
The Armor of God
What is being said here is we need to prepare for battle all the time. We need to BE PREPARED we need to have Gods word in our heart, on our mind, ready for battle. It is a battle out there we all fight it daily, minute by minute we need to understand that We as men need to pray over our wives, children, grandchildren. And when I say family I really mean family. Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles and yes Mother In Laws and we need to put that hedge of protection around them and do not try to do it on our own put on that armor and be what God has intended us to be.
Psalm 5:8 (AMP) Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way level (straight and right) before my face.
