God Can Do Much With A Few

This is the story of Gideon and his battle to start setting the Israelites free. All should read Judges Chapter 6-7.  This is a story about a man God called to free the Israelites and how he did it.  And maybe just maybe this is what God is saying to you.

Putting this in a short story form Gideon tried the Lord twice with the fleas once make it wet and the ground dry and then make it dry and the ground wet.  God did both to let Gideon know it was him.

So Gideon got an army together of 32,000 men to go to war for the Lord.  OK Lord we are ready to go we have sharp swords and our Armour on.  However the Lord knowing the Israelites would take all the credit God told Gideon to talk to the men tell them if any where scared or afraid that they could go home, so guess what they did, 22,000 went home.

Now left with only 10,000 Gideon looks around and says OK God can still do it and He has it covered.  Again the Lord says that is to many.  The Lord does not wish the Israelites to think Gideon did it so he comes up with a plan.  Take the men down to the river and let them drink the one that lap the water like a dog put them in one group and the ones that kneel down and drinks in another group.

So Gideon did as he was told and the lappers were 300 that making the kneelers 9,700 and the Lord says send the kneelers home.  So now Gideon has 300 men to defeat the army of the enemy.  So guess what, old whats his name starts up, he is tell Gideon lies about it and how stupid he was to think God would do something like that.

Then the Lord tells Gideon and his servant to go down to the camp and listen to what was going on and Gideon did as he was told.  They slipped down to the enemy’s camp and this is what he heard…  “You know I had a dream last night and a big loaf of bread rolled down that hill over there and destroyed the whole camp rolling over the tents and destroying everything”. So the other guy responded. “you know that is the Warrior Gideon he is one brave and wise warrior”!

So with Gideon hearing that he goes back with a Winners Attitude and says OK guys this is what we are going to do, so he breaks the men up into 3 groups of a 100 and he gives them all a pot, a torch and a trumpet.  He says OK here is what we are going to do, you 200 over there you are going to place yourself up here on top of the hill around the camp of our enemy and me and the 100 here are going down to the camp.  So I will get close and I will blow my trumpet and break my pot and wave my torch and ye.  And that will be signal for the rest of you do the same all at once.  Now the enemy was sleeping and was startled when they were awaken in such a way they jumped up grabbed their sword and started to fight.  The only problem was that they where not dressed so they did not know who was the enemy was so guess what.  You got it they killed each other and Gideon for lack of a better word didn’t fire a shot and won.

Moral of this story God can do much with few to destroy many. So never give up on God nor his ways…
