The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

The Parable could be the parable of today’s Christian I feel.  I think there is some forgiveness in many of us.  We have buried it deep in our past and forgot it, however, it will pop up from time to time to remind us that it is still there.  We need to forgive everything thing.  I know some is hard to do it needs to go through…

I am sure all have heard at least one sermon on The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant, so I am not going to address that. We all understand the forgiveness he got and the way he treated his own servant and what happened. I wish to address: Matthew 18:35 (MEV) “So also My heavenly Father will do to each of you if from your heart you do not forgive your brother for his trespasses.”

We have this in most churches in this world and probably in ALL churches. I remember a story of a Pastor, it is Sunday morning and the Lord has not given him a message for the service. He is sitting in his seat on the platform and he is silently praying, nothing is coming. The praise and worship were over and the announcements are over and it is time for his message. Nothing has come and he gets up and is prepared to tell the congregation that there was no message and as he placed his Bible on the podium, the Holy Spirit speaks to him. Tell them to Love One Another. OK Lord, what verse should I use? Tell them to “Love One Another” so the Pastor looked across the congregation he speaks those words picks up his Bible and goes back to his seat.

Well that Sunday ends and it is the next Sunday and guess what, no message nothing only those 3 words so it goes through this again Love One Another and thinking how long is this going to go on before they start leaving the church how long before they decide they need a new Pastor, however, he does as he is told. So now it is Sunday again and you guessed it. He walks up to the podium places his Bible down looks around and says those three words again… Love One Another and he starts to pick up his Bible, and one of the elders of the Church stands up and walks to the other side of the Auditorium to another elder he had not spoken to in 20 years. He reached out his hand and said 3 words “I Forgive You” and this man stood up with tears in his eyes and they hugged.

For the next 3 years, there was a revival in that church that was amazing. Now I do not know if this story is true or not. Maybe it was a story used to get a message across. Whatever the reason the result is the same it is time that we get the message and forgive and get over it. Our heavenly Father will treat us the same way the servant was treated if we do not forgive so I do believe there is time for some forgiveness and time for some truth to come out.
