The Promise of the Lord’s Coming According To Peter

The promise of the Lord’s coming is 2 Peter 3, the whole chapter however I would like us to look at verses 11 through 18. Starting out with destruction I think of the liar and his followers. And telling us what we ought to be, Holy conduct and Godliness.

2 Peter 3:11-16 (MEV) 11 Seeing then that all these things are to be destroyed, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 while you are waiting for and desiring the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will be consumed by intense heat? 13 But, according to His promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these things, be diligent that you may be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless. 15 Keep in mind that the patience of our Lord means salvation, even as our beloved brother Paul has also written to you according to the wisdom given to him. 16 As in all his letters, he writes about these things, in which some things are hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable distort, as they also do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

2 Peter 3:17-18 (MEV) 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know these things beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own firm footing, being led away by the deception of the wicked. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory, both now and forever. Amen.

I do not think I need to write a big long devotional about what Peter is saying here I think if you read it you know. What concerns me most actually is verses 17-18. If we have studied and know the scriptures we will know this things and so we will not fall and will not be lead by false, for lack of a better word, doctrine.

There is a lot of deception going on in this world and each day it grows. Those who are not on that solid rock and have not studied the Word and know the Word, will fall into the enemy’s trap. We are told that we need to know the word and use it. Do not trust man for your wisdom and understanding of the Bible. Get prayed up and listen to the Holy Spirit and study and learn.

We should not accept all of what we here as truth. For I am saying that in this world today there is deception, the word is being twisted and turned to say what the liar is wanting to say. We have been warned over and over and if we look around it is everywhere so let us wake up and stand up and take a stand for out Father and Jesus Christ for what was given so that we might be saved. I ask this all now in the holy and wonderful name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior—AMEN!
