A Psalm the Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly

A Psalm, in fact, the first Psalm warns us of the trickery of the enemy, the defeated one, he sneaks up and lies to you and then tries to make you believe the lie.

Psalm 1:1-2  1   Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2  but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,  and who meditates on his law day and night.

We are told in Psalms 1:1 that we should not walk with sin nor stand with sin not even sit with it. Then in verse 2 it tells us we should meditate on his law or word day and night.  Three things do not one do, that seems pretty simple doesn’t it.  However, do we do as we are told?  Let us take a look and see,

So here we are in Genesis and we are reading about the crafty serpent.

Genesis 3: 1-7  1  Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4  “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5For God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

So in this little story, we find that the woman is talking to the serpent and he asked her what did the Lord say.  She replies ‘we must not eat the fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”  Well, I went back to Chapter 2 and looked at verse 17 and God did not say one word about touching the fruit he said do not eat of it.  Then if we read in 3:6 we see the woman saw the fruit she desired the fruit and then she took of the fruit.  Three steps saw, desired and took there they are.  Three simple steps OK let us move on.

Now it is the story of Sampson and Delilah Judges 14:1-2 (DARBY) 1 And Samson went down to Timnathah, and saw a woman in Timnathah of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 And he went up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnathah of the daughters of the Philistines, and now take her for me as wife.

A simple story corrects, however, let us look at it this way…  Samson saw Delilah he desired Delilah he told his father he saw the woman.  He took the woman he told his father to take her for him as a wife.  Again three steps, now let us go a little farther and look at yet another one.

This time it is David and Bathsheba. 2 Samuel 11:1-4 (NIRV)  1 It was spring. It was the time when kings go off to war. So David sent Joab out with the king’s special troops and the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the Ammonites. They went to the city of Rabbah. They surrounded it and got ready to attack it. But David remained in Jerusalem.  2 One evening David got up from his bed. He walked around on the roof of his palace. From the roof, he saw a woman taking a bath. She was very beautiful.   3  David sent a messenger to find out who she was. The messenger returned and said, “She is Bathsheba. She’s the daughter of Eliam. She’s the wife of Uriah. He’s a Hittite.”  4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him. And he had sex with her. Then she went back home. All of that took place after she had already made herself “clean” from her monthly period.

Psalms have told us how it will come. Yet another story of seeing, desiring and taking, however, this time it even went further for Bathsheba was married and David sent her husband to war to get killed.  However three steps.

Now let us go to the New Testament we find Jesus talking and saying Peter will deny Him 3 times before the rooster crows  Jesus tells Peter he will say he does not know him 3 times before the rooster crows Matthew 26:34 “What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus answered. “It will happen this very night. Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”

Matthew 26:69-75 (NABRE) 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. One of the maids came over to him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it in front of everyone, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about!” 71 As he went out to the gate, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This man was with Jesus the Nazorean.” 72 Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man!”  73 A little later the bystanders came over and said to Peter, “Surely you too are one of them; even your speech gives you away.” 74 At that, he began to curse and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately a cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: “Before the cock crows you will deny me three times.” He went out and began to weep bitterly.

Peter was sitting out in the courtyard then Peter was walking out of the gate from the courtyard.  Next Peter was standing and they came up to him.  Again 3 steps.  We all are targets so that is why Psalms 1:2 says meditates on his law day and night.

We need to be prepared day and night we need to keep our guard up and be ready.  Remember it comes at us in 3 steps and we need to see them and say no.  Let us work at keeping God first in our lives.  Three steps to sin…
