The Ships Are Burning

A beautiful song by a fantastic couple Steve and Annie Chapman. Listen to it and the words. Then read what I have said here.

This song is written from an experience of Ponce de León, sailing Florida, looking for the fountain of youth and about his ship’s crew. The story goes something like this, the men had been bickering from the time they left Spain. So when they finally got to their destination, which was St. Augustine, Florida, they set up camp and that evening Ponce de León rowed a small boat out to the ship poured some sort of fuel all over it and set it on fire pulling the anchor and setting it adrift.

When he got back to shore the men were all there and upset. How are we going to get back to Spain was the question. Ponce de Leon said you might as well learn to get alone for we are not going back.  Thus the song the ships are burning,

The Ships can be anything, they are also referred to as red flags. So I will go with a big one. DIVORCE… If that ship is sitting in the harbor, and you are thinking about marriage. Some serious thinking and talking needs to be going on. If it is in the harbor, I would suggest not getting married without some marriage counseling and deep soul-searching first. That ship needs to be burnt and set afloat. I feel that has been an attachment added to marriage that should not be there. I feel strongly that if you cannot remove it one should not get married. I say that for one day one of the two will sail away on it.

I feel that marriage has become soft, I cannot count the number of times I have heard this statement. “Well if it doesn’t work out we can always get a divorce”. Two people getting married is not only a commitment between them, it is also with God. Marriage is a serious thing, a Holy thing and should be done in a serious manner.

When the divorce rate is higher in Christians than it is in the world there is a problem. We stand before God and make a commitment for Better or Worse, Sickness and Health, Richer or Poorer. The Better, Health and Richer part is easy it is the Worse, the Sickness and the Poorer that is the hard part. Both sides of the coin are the commitment there is not an amendment that says it is OK to forget it if this or that happens. Marriage should be and is a lifetime commitment and it should not be taken lightly.

Now listen to the song again and I think you will hear it different, and there can be many ships that need to leave the harbor. God Bless.

Thank you for reading and may God bless and be with you and watch over you. And America it is time for us to BLESS GOD again…

Isaiah 46:4 (NKJV) Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.
