Useless if God is not in it– it all is useless we define Useless as futile, pointless, fruitless, unprofitable. And that is what we are without God in our lives. The key word in Ecclesiastes is useless. ” the futile emptiness of trying to be happy apart from God”. The preacher (traditionally taken to be Solomon, the wisest, richest, most influential king in Israel’s history) looks at life ” under the sun” & from human perspective, declares it all to be empty, power, popularity, prestige, pleasure–

Nothing can fill the God – shaped void in man’s life but God Himself! But once from God’s perspective life takes on meaning & purpose, causing Solomon to explain, ” Eat…Drink…. Rejoice…. Do good…. Live joyfully…. Fear God…. Keep His commandments!” Skepticism& despair melt away when life is viewed as a daily gift from God.

The word useless was mentioned 35 times in Ecclesiastes. We worry about things that are out of our control, things we cannot change. It doesn’t matter how many times you stay up worrying about the problem, it will still be there in the morning. If we would learn to empty all our problems on our knees to God, before we get into bed, we would never lose any sleep. God is there waiting for us to give it to Him.

Matthew 6:25-30  25 ” So I tell you, don’t worry about the food or drink you need to live, or about the clothes you need for your money, life is more than food, and the body is more than the clothes. 26 look at the birds in the air. They don’t plant, Harvest, or store food in the barn, come but your heavenly father feeds them & you know that you are worth much more than the birds. 27. You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. 28 and why do you worry about clothes? Look at how the Lilies of the field goal. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. 29 but I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of those flowers. 30 God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today but tomorrow is thrown into the fire. So you can be even more sure that God will clothe you. Don’t have so little faith!”

When you pray and have doubt afterwards, you’re doubting that God can handle the task you are praying about. Or when you worry, you are not giving God the credit to show you that he can and will handle it.

James 1:2-8 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patients have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
