Christian Voting and Politics

Wow!!!! What a three word pick that could get a lot of people arguing in a hurry.

Christian voting and politics do not even really fit together very well, especially when one considers the fact that throughout history, governments have been corrupt. Various groups of Christians also believe in widely different ways from one another, which is made quite obvious through so many different denominations of Christianity. Through the years, I have heard Christians argue over political candidates and their interpretations of the Bible. I mean, argue. Christians, because of their religious beliefs can take everything very seriously. Many are willing to lose friendships and family bonds over their beliefs. I myself have lost friends over issues to do with the Bible. It all comes down to how seriously people take their morals, values, and principles.

Some people cannot even discuss differences of opinion, without getting extremely offensive or defensive, or feeling the need to be sure the other person knows that they are right and will not be swayed from their opinion. Open and honest discussion can, I believe, wake us up to errors in thinking, and gives us others to discuss things with from various points of views, all across the age and race spectrum of life. It is important that whether we re-evaluate our thinking or not, that we talk to each other. How do we learn and grow if we cannot communicate without fighting amongst each other.

So, where does voting and politics come into the equation? The way Christians vote for candidates in the political arena has everything to do with their own beliefs and interpretations of the Bible. Have you ever heard a pro and anti-abortion argument made by two Christians, who believe differently? Step in too closely and you are liable to lose an appendage, seriously. What about gay arguments by Christians, both for and against? Again, it is another heated topic that both sides get quite stirred over, and it tears apart the Lord’s family as well as Earthly families.

I have also come to find that a lot of the problem is not mere interpretation of the Bible, but instead, a lack of willingness to study God’s word outside of a church service. How can we grow spiritually, without studying the word of God except when we step into a meeting building for the church? We have to remember that we are the church, not the building.

God knew that we, Christians, would be fighting over the little things, that have their own significance, but none as important as the basis of our faith. So, he gave Christ to us. He allowed Christ to be sacrificed for us, in order to reconcile us to him, and in order to bring us together as his family, and on the premise that he commanded us to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in order to leave others to get saved, and receive eternal life. We have a common ground together. Christ is the only way to our Father in Heaven, and he died on the cross at Calvary to save us from our sins; and then he defeated death by rising again and walking among us, three days later.

Christ taught against the corrupt; and a corrupt government, or corrupt government members. Even in his time, there was corruption among the church, governments, and people. He taught to primarily the poor. They wanted to hear and learn. Rich fat cats are concerned with more money, and honestly, even today, that is their concern. Christ would have been preaching to def ears. He was for everybody, no doubt about it. However, those who followed him were not the government leaders, nor the rich of that time. Guess what? Not too much has changed today.

We have to vote our conscience and beliefs. I will never ask anyone to go against their beliefs or their thoughts as far as what God Almighty wants them to do. I will tell you, that America lies at a cross roads from which it will not return, if we do not do right in 2012. So, look at this as a call and pleading to study the word of God, seriously and deeply. Pray for the upcoming elections in 2012 and ask God for guidance. We, Christians, can be the leaders, and true changers of the game here in America. We can put a new face on government leadership here. However, we have to rally together in our seeking of God’s guidance in order to do so.

God bless America,
Thank you for reading;
God bless and keep you.
