The Beginning
I was thinking about how we all worry about doing the right thing. Who decided what we are to learn and when we are to learn it. Who told you, you needed to get saved? I remember being 9 or 10 years old and going to Vacation Bible School [or VBS] for those that are up with the times. I remember being told I needed to be saved so I did what every other kid did I went up front and got saved, I guess, no one bothered to tell me from what or why. Then later in life [and I do mean later in life] that I was in VBS for that. WOW I thought I was there to color and have fun and listen to some stories. No one bothered to tell me they were real stories.
Well anyway after being saved I was told I needed to go to Church and so I did for a couple of weeks and then I was given a letter to take home, which I did. My mom read the letter and it said that since I had been saved I needed to be baptized. I had no idea what it was or why it was to be done. Any way I was to have a pair of pants and a white shirt to be baptized in and it would be done on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm at the Emanuel Baptist Church on 10th St.
I found out later that it was the Mother Church of the Mission I was saved in. Anyway I was Baptized and made a member of the church. This is where it go serious, less than a week later, mom and dad got a letter stating that since I was a child and did not work my parents should tithe a 10% of their salary for me. My dad says that’s it you are not going back. And that was it for church. A couple of times I went because of a girl. Never really got anything out of it.
Then fast forward to April 24, 1982 8:40pm I was saved I did not totally understand it however I did it in fact I remember the prayer,”Dear God I do not know if you are real or not, I do know nothing else has worked. If you are real then I am ready to do whatever, whenever and whatever you want. And if there is anything about me you don’t like you will have to change it for I can not.
I was delivered from Drugs, Tobacco in the snap of a finger. Then my new life of dos and don’ts was born. You need to do this, you need to do that. You can not do this or that and on and on. Then I started reading and what I was reading did not line up with what I was told. So I set out on this adventure.
Then I set out on a new adventure. To see if I could really understand this relationship and what it meant and how do I keep it? I believe there are a large number of Christians in the same boat with me, so I decided I was going to play Peter and step out of the boat.
So I have stepped out of the boat and started a teaching called “It Is Finished” I will be starting that teaching in January 5th 2015.
